Getting started

What Ropenode is

Ropenode is the AI workflow IDE for Windows and WSL: a desktop workspace built around the agent CLIs you already use, claude and codex — not a replacement for either of them.

It runs the official binary as a real, interactive terminal inside the window, and builds the rest of the workflow around it: many projects side by side, a policy gate in front of the agent's edits, per-turn undo, a full git client, a file explorer and editor, and a live Log of every tool call the agent makes.

Two agents, one control room

Every session picks its agent — Claude Code or Codex — when you create it. See Choosing a backend.

Read What is supervised before you rely on the edit policy. It covers Claude Code sessions, not Codex sessions, and the difference matters.

What it does not do

  • It never holds a model credential. The claude and codex binaries authenticate themselves, exactly as they do when you run them in a terminal. Ropenode does not read, store, proxy or transmit your API key or session, and it never calls Anthropic's or OpenAI's API on your behalf.
  • It does not resell model usage. You bring your own account.
  • It does not send us your work. Projects, transcripts and history stay in a local database. The only calls to ropenode.com are the update check and, once you sign in, the licence check.

Requirements

  • Windows 10/11. There is no macOS or Linux build today.
  • At least one agent CLI installed, on your PATH, and logged in: claude, codex, or both.
  • Node.js — used by the small relay that feeds live tool-call events into the UI.
  • Git, if you want the git panel (you do).
