Working with sessions

The Log

The Log is the record of what the agent actually did, as opposed to what it said. It sits beside the console on every Claude Code session.

Each row is a prompt or a tool call — a file read, an edit, a command, a search — as it happens. Rows that are still running, reported by the hooks before the transcript has caught up, are drawn dashed. Click a row for its detail; a tool that took a screenshot shows the picture. ⋯ Show full log opens the whole history in a larger view.

The Log: the prompt, each tool call with its target and result, and the reply, timestamped.

The session's files

Files, in the Log's header, lists every file the session created, modified or deleted, marked A, M or D. Each one opens at its first changed line. On Pro, the same list can be saved as a ZIP of the changed files at their project paths.

The session Files list: one net row per file the session changed, with a ZIP export.

Scope

  • A sub-agent's file edits appear in the Log as they happen; its reads and searches are not listed one by one.
  • The Log does not show cost or token counts.
  • A Codex console has no Log. See What is supervised.
